Do phone grips come in matching designs?
At etchd, yes. Almost every print is made as a click-on grip as well as a phone case, in the same artwork, so the grip looks like part of the case rather than something stuck on afterwards.
Most grips are sold as a separate category by a separate brand, in whatever colours that brand happened to make. You end up with a case you chose and a grip you tolerated.
Why the grip is the piece worth matching
It is the part of your phone you physically touch most. Your fingers rest on it every time you pick the phone up, and it sits dead centre on the back, which is the side other people see. A mismatched grip is the single most visible compromise on a phone you otherwise styled carefully.
What does the grip actually do?
Two things. It gives you a secure one handed hold, so you can reach across a large screen without the constant low grade fear of dropping it. Then it flips out into a kickstand, which props the phone at a viewing angle for a video call, a recipe on a kitchen counter, or something to watch while you eat.
It is slim enough to stay pocketable and it is reusable, so it can move to your next case rather than being thrown away with this one.
Does the artwork line up with the case?
The grip is a small round surface and the case is a large rectangular one, so a print that reads beautifully across a case can turn into an unreadable fragment when cropped to a circle. Each design is positioned for the grip rather than cropped from the case file, so you get a legible piece of the motif instead of an arbitrary slice of it.
You can pick a glossy or matte finish. Matte is the sensible default here, since this is the one accessory guaranteed to be covered in fingerprints.
Can I use a grip with a magnetic case?
The click-on grip sits flush against the back of your case. If you charge magnetically or use magnetic mounts, that is worth planning around, because anything mounted centrally on the back sits where the magnets are. Our magnetic grips exist for exactly that reason and carry the same prints.
