Can you get a ring holder that matches your phone case?
Yes. Most prints at etchd are made as a ring holder as well as a phone case, in the same artwork, so the ring reads as part of the design rather than hardware bolted onto it.
Ring holders are usually sold as plain metal discs. They work, and they look like an accessory chosen for function by someone who had already stopped caring what the phone looked like.
Why bother matching a ring holder?
Because it is permanent in a way most accessories are not. A grip can come off, a stand stays on a desk, but a ring holder is stuck to the back of the phone and stays there for the life of the case. Anything you look at that often is worth liking.
It is also the accessory most likely to be an emergency purchase. People buy one after a near drop, from whatever is on the shelf, and then live with it for a year.
What does it actually do?
It gives your finger something to hook through, which is the difference between holding a large phone and balancing one. That is the real function: it makes a one handed grip secure enough that you stop bracing for a drop.
It also folds down into a kickstand, so the phone will sit at a viewing angle on a table. The ring lies low and flat when folded, so it still goes in a pocket.
How does it attach, and will it come off?
It has a strong adhesive backing and sticks directly to your case. That is a commitment: it is designed to stay put rather than to be repositioned regularly, so it is worth deciding where you want it before you press it down. Most people place it slightly below centre, where a finger falls naturally.
Is there more than one style?
There is. Alongside the original foldable ring we now make several newer ring holder styles, and they differ in profile and in how the ring itself is shaped. The newer styles are on a smaller set of designs so far and are still rolling out across the range, so which ones you can get depends on the print you have chosen.
